What website stats are important and why?

I find it really hard to look at stats and information in analytics. When I do Ican’t decide whats important.

Also, I never make a note and see if I’ve improved.

I was thinking earlier today, that recent results have shown that generally people can use my software without problem. So I began to wonder why I don’t get more sales. Also, what stats I should be looking at to try and find out why I’m not getting more sales.

Theres lots of things I could look at, but I can’t decide whats the key items I need to look at.

Thoughts?

I’ve had help setting up goals in analytics in the past, but again, this information looked good, but I’m not entirely sure that it was useful.

I’m not sure that web stats will show why you aren’t getting
more sales. All they can tell you is how many people look
at pages on your site. Though of course more visitor should
    equal more sales.

It sounds like there’s probably two interesting figures you
    can keep an eye on:-

    1. How many people visit specific product pages.
    2. The bounce rate of the product pages, i.e. do people
look at any other product pages on your site looking for
    more items to buy.

Bounce rate would be good, except I have my price on my product pages.

So I couldn’t tell if the price is a problem.

I’ve always thought that sites that didn’t have their prices upfront were annoying as it meant I’d have to wade through trying to find the price.

However it would tell you me if people were interested in buying.

Although, I do tend to look through and find a if its free before I download then click away when i find out.

It would be hard to differentiate between a problem on
price and a problem in that the visitor simply didn’t find
    what they wanted.

However, I don’t think you should worry too much about
price scaring people away in the case of the jewellery site.
I shouldn’t think anyone expects to get free jewellery so
they’ll be expecting to pay. I also don’t think yuor prices
are high. So the main thing of interest will be whether,
after landing on a product page, the visitor takes a look at
other products or simply leaves the site.
